-nine whiV the gale is rushing, Over the sen! erne while the west is -blushing l;osy for thee. ome. villi thy love undying, ome while my heart is-crying Great one, on thee!
Changeless thy trust, unbroken Down thro’ the years, Deathless yet all unspoken,, Guarded by tears. Come, while false eyes are shaming Love which is thine for claiming; Calm thou inv fears.
Come while the evening’s glory Brightens the earth; Tell once again, the story, Love’s gentle birth. Come, in my lonely sorrow; Kiss into life to-morrow, Radiant with mirth! —Bessie Height on, Christchurch. THE GREY THREAD. ‘ 1 What is Life?” the young man ask ed of the old man by the way, “What is Life?” came the slow response. “Stranger, ’lis hard to say. ’ ’ From out of his robe the old man took a slender, grey silk thread, Upon it dangling many beads. ‘Xow, watch me, lad,” he said. “This is Life”—ami he moved the beads, the. rod,, the gold, ami the green ; The youth’s eyes gleamed. “Life’s good,” he spoke, watching the baubles’ sheen. “You make a mistake,” the old man cried, “Look again, ’tis easily seen, The colored trifles are not Life —’tis the grey thread in between.” —E.
