SECOND EDITION.
A STOEMY TRIP SMALL STEAMER’S EXPERIENCE A small simmer, the Toiler, of 62 tons gross and 22 net, en route from Whakainne. to Bluff, put in to Gisborne this morning, to replenish her coal supplies, after a stormy voyage from her port of despatch. The Toiler cleared Whakatyuie on Tuesday, and ran into heavy weather almost immediately Rough seas were encountered at East Cape, and as no shelter could be secured at Hicks Bay it was decided to run back to Cape Runaway, where the vessel sheltered until 3 p.m. yesterday. Fine weather was experienced until East Capo was again reached, when a stiff southerly encountqrod; (later a land wind arose, and neavy weather was made, with a cross sea.
The Toiler was shaping a course for Napier, hut called in at Gisborne, as the protracted voyage from Whakntano resulted in tlie supplies of coal running low. .Silo passed Tuahine Point at. 9.1 b
a.m., ami berthed at the wharf at 12.15 p.m. She will probably proceed lo Napier to-morrow, and is expected to make a call at Wellington on tin* voyage to till; Bluff.
For the past two years the. Toiler has been lying idle at. Whakatane, being owned by the Mast Coast, Freezing Co. there, hut has now been purchased by a new company .starting canning operations at Mini). She is a trim little vessel, and proved a- line sea boat on the rough voyage from Whakatane lo Gisborne. Captain T. L l'etrie is at present m command, ami has with him Captain Roderick, who has been .supervising the fitting out of the ship for her new work. .Mr. Alexander F’. David is the engineer.
