HELPS THE BATSMEN
SMALLER CRICKET BALL (Received May I:.', 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. In view of the heavy scoring follow:ng the introduction of the smaller ball, cricketers freely offer the opinion thai the change helps the batsman, though hard wickets and perfect weather have thus far prevented the ball being pitched nearer the outside stumps without hitting them, it gives none of the former opportunities of slip catches off the edge- of the hat. It is .alleged thai the difficulty: of hitting the smaller object is not worth .considering.
