(P.A. Messages.) The second batch of cases as a result of the. recent raid on the premises of A. V. YYhitta, who was convicted of being a bookmaker, was heard at Christ church to-day. Practically all the defendants resided some distance from the city; One was a woman in Southland. Fines were imposed ranging from £2 to £ls for botting-wilh a bookmaker.
The Auckland Swimming Centre has suspended C J. Samty, a committeeman of the Ponsonby Swimming and Life Saving Club, Until be has made a satisfactory explanation in reference to his nomination ot a girl whom lie was coaching in a tiny tots' race, it being alleged that he. knew the girl was over the age limit.
Two widows. Lottie Taylor, 35, and Canny Carter, 45, were charged in the Auckland Police Court with thefts from shops. The former was sentenced to one nioglh's imprisonment and Ihe hitler was lined £2O. Taylor had previously been convicted on a'shop lifting charge. When her house was searched it was found that she had a very extensive wardrobe. Taylor said she had an income, and Carter was in fair circumstances. Both were caught in the ad of thieving. In Ihe. Supreme Court at Auckland to-day, Daniel McCarthy, alias F. W. NV'Aton, on eight charges of breaking and entering and theft, one of breaking' and entering with felonious intent, rind one of false presence's, was sentenced to two years' hard labor. Russel} Sydney Diamond,, for breaking and entering and theft, received two years' Borstal detention, William Richard Bannister, For Forgery* arid uttering, two years' reformative detention. The Takapmm Tram and Ferry Co., which recently sold most of its assets to the Devpnp'orl Ferry Co I'm* £4.0,000, shows a loss on lite past year's working of £19,200.

There arc 15 charges against them, including six of having forged signatures on paysheets. Tho trill was proceeded with of Michael Lyons, who pleaded not guiltv to the theft of £1193 and to six charges of forgery.
