SHIPS CRASH IN FOG

ONE VESSEL SUNK? NEW YORK, March 11. ; The freighter El Sol, inbound from Galveston, and the freighter Sac. City, of Philadelphia, outbound for Buenos Aires, collided in a dense fog off the Statue of Liberty to-dav. The El Sol was reported to- have sung at once. A hole was stove in the side of the other vessel. Police and fire boats, together with oilier harbor craft, were despatched immediately to the scene of the collision. After the first, distress signal, wireless stations on shore were unable to communicate with the El Sol. The collision took place in ferry lanes traversed by vessels bringing thousands of eommunters to New \ ork. The fog was still dense at 9 a.m. and all manner of craft was forced to proceed slowly. El Sol was reported to be owned by tin Southern Pacific Company. With a net tonnage of 3747, she left Galveston on Saturday and was due hero to-day. The Sac City, 3445 tons, owned by the American Diamond Line, left Philadelphia on Monday and was to put in here before leaving for South America.
