MERRETT MURDER CHARGE GUILTY OF FORGERY (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received February 9. 1 p.m.) LONDON', Feb. 8. In the Merrett case the jury returned a verdict of “murder not proved, but guilty of forging cheques.” The accused was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. Lord Alness, in summing up, pointed out that tho deceased’s depositions had not been taken with precision desirable for a murder trial. They were entirely lacking.
