ROWING

GORDON DOUBLES FINAL

BROWN'S GOOD WIN

The final race in the T. R. Gordon double-scull series, rowed last evening under the control of the Gisborne Rowing Club, was won by S. Brown and A. West, who received from their opponents a handicap of 4 sec.,* and finished soine two lengths ahead. The contest would have been an even one from the scratch mark, though the losers, R. Hanna and C. F. Home, would proba'bly have finished on better had they sighted their opponents. Making the most of his advantage, Brown set up a lead of two lengths, ani received some further assistance. from the fact that Hanna got away badly. Throughout the race the liandi cap men were able to maintain their lead undiminished, and they finished full of rowing. Hanna made several efforts to reduce his disadvantage, but his spurts were closely watched by the leaders, who were able to respond on every occasion. Both the strokes engaged were comparatively young in their positions, and did themselves credits in a hard tussle. . The next series will be a four-oar event, for the club president's trophies. This is the biggest event of the club programme, and competition is invariably keen for tho honors of the series. It is anticipated that 12 crews will contest the trophies, and the selection of crews, which will be made this evening, should attract much attention among club members.
