ACCIDENT NEAR TAREWA
LORRY FALLS OVER BANK Mr. W. H Priestly, a Gisborne carrier, had a narrow escape when his motor lorry went over a steep bank on the Tarewa hill yesterday. Fortunately, Mr. Priestly was % thrown clear, and although he sustained a broken collarbone nnd facial injuries, 'he was not seriously hurt. The accident occurred near a sharp corner, a car coming from the direction of Morere forcing Mr. Priestly to go to the side of the road. He pulled too far over, with the result that the wheels of the lorry slipped over the edge of the bank, precipitating the lorry over the steep side. There was not a big- drop at the spot, hut the lorry, which was laden with furniture, crashed down about 40ft and was 'badly damaged. A little later Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Taylor, of Gisborne, who were returning from Morere, saw a man crawling up the bank, and on stopping they saw that there had been an accident. Mr. Priestly was brought into town in their car and taken- to the Cook hospitm.
