A tram-line, fropi Huia Bay has been lead up to the site of the proposed dam in the Huia valley where another reservoir will be established to supply water to Auckland. From, the bay to the dam site is a distance, of four miles. It; will be necessary to lay another J J miles of tramline to the place selected for a quarry, which will be opened at an outcrop of bluestone on one of the upper tributaries of the Huia stream. The earthwork for this tram-line is now under way, and it will occupy the attention of the bulk of the working force during the remainder of • the summer and Die autumn.
A good-sized village has sprung up at the point where work on the da in is now under way. The construction cairtp for housing the workmen is almost complete. It comprises a wellequipped cookhouse and mess room large enough for 00 or 100 men.
