WORLD'S FARMERS
CONFERENCE AT ROME
PARIS, Dec. 12.
The International Commission of Agriculture gathered lately in Paris," under the presidency of Marquis de Vogue, in order to set up the definite programme of (he next International. Congress of Agriculture, to be held in Borne at the beginning of May, 1927. The last congress, which met in Warsaw in 1925, was attended by several hundred delegates, and 28 nations sent, official representatives. ■ . Tho Rome Congress, which is to- be opened by the King of Italy, will differ on one important point from the former congresses. The first section, or section for rural economics, has been constituted under tho name, 'lnternational Conference of Agricultural Associations," into a body entrusted -with tbo representation of agricultural organisations and the defence of the interests of agriculturists in economic matters. This means that agriculturists will in future be in ji position to let their voice be heard on economic questions in geneial, and, more especially, with the important international organisations and institutions, such as the League of Nations.
Attempts to group the agriculturists along international lines have been made for several years The necessity has been felt particularly during late years owing to the fact that the situation of agriculture is in most countries much worse than before the war.
Amongst the principal subjects to be discussed by the International Conference of Agricultur.il Organisations in Rome are 'Situatiefi of Agriculture," and "Desiderata ot the agricultural associations concerning the tasks of the Economic Conference in Geneva."
The provisional secretariate, led by Professor Laur (Switzerland), one of the vice-presidents of the commission, has been entrusted with the preparation of the conference. The International Commission of Agriculture has already sent, a report to the Economic Conference, urging it to make inquiry npon the situation of agriculture throughout the World. The Economic Conference will, no doubt, be ab]o to make good use of the works and statistics of the International instil tile of Agriculture,
