PARIS, January 1
Though official Iv estimated to be worth £20,000,000,"' even the experts have only a very vague idea of the value of the Government's art treasures.
Some express the opinion that they may well be worth £100,000,000. The- Government accordingly has ordered that "a complete inventory be made, the valuation to comprise niainly gold and silver plate, the tapestry, pictures, and antique furniture. These are called the Government's household possessions, and scarcely 5 per cent, of them have periodically been aired, in spected or refurbished. One Savonnerie carpet, which measures 70ft. by 30U., has been, rolled up in pepper and naptlialine for 50 years, and it will need 40 men to unroll it. carefully. The precious gold and sOrer tapestries have been dusted every six months. Enormous colters guard the plate, whTcn was amassed by kings during many centuries.
