An interesting table in the agricultural section of the New Zealand Year Book just, issued shows the area in commercial Orchards divided according to whether bearing or not bearing. The figures plainly indicate that, 10 years ago large areas of new orchard were being planted out, but that since then a great falling away in planting has occurred. In 191617, 12,192 acres were returned as bearing and 12,618 acres as not bearing. By 1921-22 the area in bearing was returned as 17,607 acres and that not hearing as 7604 acres; while this year (1925-26) there were 19,876 acres bearing and only 1937 acres not bearing.
