VICTIM OF TERRORISTS

"TORTURE OP THE TREE." (Australian nnd N.Z. Cable Association.; PARIS, December 31. An amazing story is told in connection with the discovery of the body of Francis Halama, a young married man who was found hanging head downwards from a tree in a wood near Beanvais. It was at first thought he had caught his foot in a cleft bet ween branches while climbing, and was unable to release himself. It has been disclosed, however, by a Russian working in the same factory that the Terrorist custom still prevailed, known as the "Torture of the Tree," which was practised against any member of the hand who had betrayed his comrades. The practice was to wedge a man's log in the fork of a tree, so he could not possibly release himself, and leave him to perish. The police have come to theconclusion that Halama was the victim of this torture. Six arrests have been effected.
