GERMANY 'S COLON I lis. MR, AMERY INTERVIEWED. (Klce. IVI. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Australian end N.Z. Cable Association.; LONDON. January 1. Mr. L. C. M. S. Aniery, in a special interview in the Lokal Arczeiger in Berlin, expressed his belief in ilie Tiossibility of the creation of a United States of Europe worked on a similar basis to the British Empire, without a central Government. 'Questioned whether lie thought Germany's former colonic: 1 , ought to lie returned, Mr. Aniery said: "Germany at, the end of the war, renounced her colonics in favor of the Allies. Let us leave it at that. If we begin to discuss the question, there is no knowing where we will end. Wc want to take the end of the war as the starting point, and go forward to an undcrtanding among the nations of Europe. Germany does not need the colonies to assist in her recovery, and her pre-war trade with those colonies was insignificant. The colonies were not necessary from the viewpoint of prestige. Austria-Hungary before the war had great prestige, but; no colonies. Portugal's many colonies had not given her any prestige."
