BREWERIES TRANSFORMED
NEW USE TOR PLANTS "Many of the former breweries in America have turned their plants to the manufacture of chocolates, machinery, and chemicals, and they i are not much concerned with the production of 'near boor' or other sub- ' stitute beverages, which arc within the law," said Mr. E. B. Inbusch ; owner of one of the largest yeast factories of Milwaukee, who arrived.at Auckland by the Carinthia. I Mr. Inbusch added that tho com'pany of which ho is president was pro- . ducing 5000 gallons of whisky a day 'when prohibition was introduced in I America in 1918. To-day the plant I was turning out no,ooolb of yoast a 'day for bakers' use. Tho whisky still also had boon metamorphosed into apparatus for producing vmogaf and commercial alcohol. Manufacturers of yoast had invented a new refreshment for Americans. Yoast was made up in small tablets and it was a popular custom to dissolve one in a glass of water. It made a queer drink', hilt it was perhaps bettor than drinks which were sold with their maximum of a hall' per cent, of alcohol. _________________ i
