INSPECTION BY MINISTER

The Mayor, Mr. G. Wildish, and Mr. W. 1). Lysnar, M.P., both received advice yesterday that the Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Lands, will be arriv : ing in Gisborne on Saturday afternoon. He will be accompanied by the UnderSecretary of Lands, and will make an o&clftl inspection of Te Wera station, which was purchased by"the Crown for Closer settlement/some time.ago. | The Minister has intimated his willingness to attend to any' bn«iness on Saturday evening. It is anticipated that his stay in the district will be a Sfaoft one, > his principal desire being to gain a first-hand knowledge of Te Wera prior to' its being cut up for settlement. .It will be remembered that the purchase aroused a storm of criticism in Parliament, but the Minister justified it on the,grounds that the land was suit: able for dairying, and would cut up into lo or more sections. Te Wera station, comprising 10,000 acres, is situated some idistance in from Matawai, and was purchased for between £6 and £7 an acre.
