THRILLS FOR ASKING

FIVE LIONS; MOTORISTS ON CAR' HOOD.

LOUIS TRICHARDT (S.A.), Oct. 22. An extraordinary incident' lately occurred to two young men in the northern area. The young motoring travellers, eager for adventure, inquired, about 5 p.m. at a police post for the direction to the nearest, abode? of lions. They received very clear instructions and arrived at the rendezvous at 7 p.m. It appears they sat in silence until 8 p.m., when the lights were switched on and, to the consternation of the adventurers, five lions were discovered lying within 20yds. of the motor-car. The travellers with great rapidity took a position on the hood of the car, and opened fire, which resulted in a general mix up of the lions, one, however, coming .straight for the car, and then there was silence. Later on it was found that a lion lying stone dead alongsido the car was a well-grown five months' old cub. After .spending a night "on top," the travellers decided to look for no more lions !
