MR. W. J. POLSQN'S ATTITUDE. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, last night. The difficulties which beset tho paths of fanners throughout the Dominion were outlined to-day by Mr. W. J. Poison, president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, in a striking address to the Wanganui Rotary Club. The address was preliminary to an important rally of North Island farmers, who will gather here on Thursday next to discus s pressing rural problems.
Mr. Poison drew attention to the. need for economy in public expenditure, a better land settlement policy, the. extension of overseas markets to America and the Orient, and the need for the stabilisation of land values and labor conditions. He suggested drastic penalties for breaches of labor awards, stating that the present price of primary products did not allow farmers, to make both ends meet.
