POLITICAL VOLCANO
CRISIS IN RUMANIA LITTLE HOPE FOR KING FTTTHRP REGIME IN DOUBT (E!eo. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.l '.Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 7,2 p.m.) BUCHAREST, Dec. G. An uncensorcd message from the frontier states that the situation is most critical. The country is on the brink of a political volcano. King Ferdinand is suffering from cancer, and even Dr. Hart maun's operation to-day, though reported to bo successful, is not likely to prolong his life more than a few weeks or a month. Possible solutions of the turmoil which will follow the demise of the Crown are, firstly, a Regency of Prince Nicholas, the Patriarch, and the President of the Court of Cessation; secondly, the same Regency, plus the Queen; thirdly, the Queen as head of the State, which would necessitate legislation, as Rumania is under salic law: fourthly, Prince Carol, as King; and fifthly, Prime Carol as president of a republic. The Premier, M. Averescu, favors the first solution; M.Bratianu and the Liberals favor the second or third: the army and the National Party favor Carol as King; the Peasants' Party favor Carol as president of a. republic. Carol is only willing to return as president, as he determined to divorce Princess Helen, and marry Mdlle, Lupeseu, the Jewess with whom ho is living in Paris. If Carol returns upon tin- King's death he will certainly bo acclaimed with enthusiasm. No Government'is powerful enough to prevent an army coup d'etat in his favor.
