OBITUARY
MR. E. ADAIR A prominent Gisborne club-man and sports enthusiast died-yesterday afternoon, in the person of Mr. Erneat Adair, who succumbed to, a sudden illness which had caused his removal to hospital a few days ago. The late Mr. Adair was highly popular in all circles, and deep regret, was felt when the sad news was circulated.
Of a lively disposition, keen on "all forms of athletics, and successful above the average in the practise of most, Mr. Adair gained considerable prominence in sporting circles. He was a member of the Gisborne Tennis Club, the Poverty Bay Golf Club, and the Gisborne BoAvling Club, and in each had proved an able exponent of the respective games. In the social world he was equally prominent, his genial disposition and happy spirits making him welcome -everywhere. Recently the Gisborne Club recognised his services by appointing him to its secretaryship, an office which he held at tho time of his death. The son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Adair, tho deceased was educated hero and after leaving school went into his father's office, and became proficient in accountancy. On the death of his father, Mr. Ernest Adair took over the 'business, and held various secretarial appointments, in addition to agencies. As a member of the Fire Board, representing the insurance companies, he performed valuable work, and in his profession he occupied a respected place.
Mr. Adair is survived by his wife, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Crawford. His brothers and sisters, who abroad, are Mrs. A. F. Kennedy and Misses Madeline and Winnie Adair, of London, Messrs George and I-ercy Adair, also of London, and Mr. K. Adair, of South Africa. The funeral will take place to-mor-row afternoon, leaving Mr. Adair's late residence at 2 o'clock for the Taruheru cemeterv.
MRS. EDWIN GOUGH. * Widespread regret will be felt at the announcement, that, news has been received in Gisborne, of the death at, i'etone on Sunday afternoon of Mrs. Edwin Gough, formerly Miss Nasmith, of Dunedin. Mrs. Gough resided in Gisborne some years ago, and was wellknown in this town, her genial and kindly disposition winning for her many friends, who will be deeply grieved at her demise. Mrs. Gough was in Gisborne on holiday only five months ago. Tho deceased was a sister of Mrs. G. Humphreys and Mis. J. Colley. of Gisborne. She is survived by her husband, and leaves a, grown-up family of three daughters and six sons.
