MAORIS' VICTORY
WEAK FRENCH DEFENCE TOUR RESUMES AUSPICIOUSLY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received December f>, 1 p.m.) PARIS, Dec. 5. For the match against a selected French fifteen at Bordeaux the Maori team was: Phillips, Falwasser, Pelham, Mateue, Barclay, Mete, Wineera, Bell, Love, Dennis, Wilson, Rika, Manihera, Robinson, and S. Gemmell. The Maoris' win by a dropped goal and three tries to a try marked the resumption of their French tour. The attendance was 12,000. The ground was dry and the weather fair. Early in the game France failed to take advantage of a free kick against tho v Maoris for obstruction. The Maoris resumed the attack, Phillips dropping a brilliant goal. Villa replied with a try, which was not converted.- Jaurreguy, who was a pillar of strength to the French, narrowly missed putting the Frenchmen ahead. Pelham scored an unconverted try for the Maoris, whose defence kept out tlie vigorous French attacks. Jaurreguy ran brilliantly, but was pulled down. At half-time the score was 7 to 3. In the second spell the general weakness of the French defence enabled Falwasser to score a try after a brilliant run, which Jaurreguy almost stopped. The tourists again attacked, and despite Duinanoir's fine defence added the third unconverted try, winning the game through strong, fast running and speedy backing up. Phillips was the ! outstanding visitor and France's best were Jaurreguy, Duinanoir and Graciet. The French team was: Chesncau, Villa, Graciet, Baillete, Jaurreguy, Duinanoir, Bader, Ribere, Piquefal, Etchebery, Kassayet, Gamed, Montade, Salugnuc, and Seyrou. j
