CAR CAPSIZES
MAN DEAD: WOMAN INJURED (Per Press Association.) TAURANGA, last night. A motor-car fatality occurred about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon about nine miles from' Tuurangii : on-the Tau-ranga-Waihi road. Mr. Leslie Allen Cooper, employed at the borough hydro-electric station at McLaren's Falls, with his wife and two children drove to Wnikino to bring Mrs. Cooper's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Odium, of Waikiuo, across for Christmas. ' " - The party were returning yesterday and, when they reached the point stated, tho car apparently swerved, hit the bank and capsized. Cooper, who was driving, was thrown out through tho wind-screen and Mrs. Cooper was also thrown clear. Tho children also escaped uninjured, but Mr. Odium was picked up dead and Mrs. Odium was found seriously injured. A passing motor-car, driven by Mr. Hugo Dickson, came upon the party and found Odium and the Coopers clear of the car, but Mrs. Odium and tho two Cooper, children still mixed up in tho wrecked hood. With the assistance of some men who arrived almost simultaneously from the other direction in a motorlorry, the overturned car was lifted clear. The chilidreu were all fight', but Mrs. Odium was found to be seriously injured and was brought by Mr. Dickson to Tauranga hospital. She was found to be suffering from a fracUirod skull, broken leg, and internal injuries. Her condition is critical. Tho body of Mr. Odium was-brought into Tauranga later.
