i i i' npji in CAREER OF CBISIE ENDED, CALCUTTA, November 18. j Reports from Rajput ana say that tho police recently exterminated a formidable gan s - of dacoits (armed bandits), which, for 2Q years, had terrorised the inhabitants of native states and British districts, and was responsible, altogether, for 36 murders and 100 village raids. Tho lender of the gang came from an influential family, and at one time was. an officer in an Indian regiment. He was dismissed for insubordination. The gang often escaped, owing to inlcr-Stato' rules forbidding the police of ono State to enter another, without permission. Ultimately the police of several Rnjputaiia State* joined forces, and the gang "was pursued for a week, and captured after 'a pitched battle of two .hours. The leader -was captured after a hand-to-hand; fight, in which a constable was killed. v
