HOSPITAL APPOINTMENT OBJECTION TO NEW ZEALANDER (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Preia Assn.) SYDNEY, Nov. 28. The appointment of Mr. Coyle, of Wellington, as secretary to the Newcastle Hospital, is meeting with strong local opposition. A meeting of the Labor Day Committee strongly criticised the Hospital Board for appointing a New Zealander to the position without calling for applications locally. The committee is calling a conference of representatives of district industrial unions to consider the withdrawal of industrial subscriptions to the hospital, totalling £30,000 annually, until !he position is satisfactorily adjusted. •Other public bodies have also expressed disapproval with the appointment.

Tlie Mayor of Newcastle declared he could not understand the president of the Hospital Board filling the position without- first calling general applications, He stated his intention of calling a public meeting to protest against the appointment.
