£16,638 COST TO DATE 1 BOARD MEMBER SATISFIED The Gisborne Harbor Board to-day received a return showing the expenditure t-o dhte on the opening up of the Whareongaonga quarry, whence the supply of stone for the breakwater work will be procured. The return was furnished at the request of Mr. T. Quirk, who, having perused the items, which totalled £16,603 11s Bd, expressed himself as well satisfied with the value they had received for the money. The items covered by the report were: Employees’ accommodation. quarry buildings, water supply, and drainage, £4917 9s 9d; opening up and forming breakwater (tunnelling £857 19s 4d, explosives £IO2O 18s 9a), £IB7B 18s Id; quarrying to breakwater and approach to breakwater, £5816 13s; railway and crano tracks) (platelaying £355 7s 3d, rails, sleepers and fastenings £950 2s Id) £1305 9s 4d; totalling: £SCOI Os sd; erection of cranes and navvy £997 7s lOd; bridle track and fencing, £346 4s Id ; transportation of plant,' materials and supplies, £1376 9s 7d; grand total, £16.638 11s Bd. Mr. Quirk' said that the details supplied in the return totalled £16.638, and his object in asking for the report was to obtain some idea, of the value received for the money expended. Having gone over the property, he was satisfied that they were securing value for the money, though prior to receiving the return he had not expected' to find 1 matters so satisfactory. The engineer’s report had indicated' that the work was progressing well, and shortly they would have reached the stage of sinking the Monowai. Personally, ho war, well satisfied with the position regarding the quarry. •
