OIL COMPANY'S REQUEST NEW HARBOR PROVISION The* provision of special berthage for oil-carrying vessels, ami the construction of a pipe-line on pilot* across the diversion cut for the delivery of oil and petrol to the town side of the river, wore asked for l»y the British lmaerial Oil 00. in a letter dealt with hv lhe Gisborne Harbor Board to-day. Th > hoard favorably considered the application, and the secretary was instructed to advise Hie company to that effect. The letter was one of a file, which included the information gathered from other harbor boards throughout the Dominion, relating to the treatment of petrol and oil vessels. The eoinpa.nv suggested that the pipeline across the diversion cut should be so constructed as to enable a section to swing aside for the passage of small vessels using the cut, and asked whether the cost of the berthage and pipe-line would have to be contributed to by tin* applicant company.
The hoard discussed the matter hi committee, and members were in accord with the proposal that facilities similar to those provided elsewhere should bo offered at Gisborne. The berthage will require to accommodate vessels up to 1000 tons burden, of a length of liiOft., and a draught of 13ft din.
