The New Zealand League team wars defeated by >S win ton by 1(1 points to 3-l. It was a. thrilling contest. Swinton started well, quickly gaining a live points lead when Beswick scored a try which Morris converted. The New Zealanders then subjected the Swinton line to greater pressure than it has known for n long time. Several attackers were held a yard from the line and several limes the ball was on the line, but the defender.-, got there first. Eventually. Mount Kicked a penalty goal, this being the New Zealanders’ only reward in the first, half. .Morrison kicked a goal for Swiutou, who lend at the end of the lirst. half by 7 points to 2. New Zealand led nine minutes alter resumption, Desmond and Brown and then Desmond again scoring tries, all of which were tho result of remarkable speed and delightful work. Mount, failed to convert, any of them. iSwintoH then attacked hotly, and Morris kicked a penalty goal. A thrilling run by Davidson ami Brown ended in the latter scoring a spectacular try from his own half. Svvinton drew the scores level when Halliwell scored a try, which Morris convert oil. There was feverish excitement in the last minute, when Pearson dropped a goal, giving iSwiiiton the victory, The New Zealanders played splendidly- throughout, and wore interior to their opponents only in the scrums. The team was; Gregory;, Desmond, Davidson, Colo, Brow n, Delgrosso, Brisbane, Henry. Carroll, Herring, Mount. Peterson, Avery.
