The monthly meeting of the Cook County Women's Guild was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs. 0. Lyndon presiding over a largo attendance. The matron reported that there were 33

children in the creche, and they .were in good health. During the month three children were admitted, and none discharged. The matron’s and visitors’ reports were adopted.

Messrs.• I' 1 . Tolortou, W, G. SSliorratt. and G. M. Reynolds, who have been in Wellington attending the joint conference of fanners’ organisations and and freezing companies, returned to Gisborne this morning. The delegates had a strenuous trip, lull are satisfied with the results of the meeting. They arrived in Wellington at midnight, on Wednesday, and were prese.pl at the conference all day on Thursday, returning to Napier last, evening. Strong criticism of the directors of the Gisborne Slioepfarmers’ F.M. and M. Go. was made by Mr. G. \ . Smith at to-day’s meeting of shareholders. Air. Smith said that farmers in the district were being penalised. At A. and P. Association meetings he advocated increased production, but it did not seem much use. Farmers here received 5s per ICOlbs less for their beef than did the farmers of Hawke’s Bay, and 2s 6d less per sheep. That was due to tho way the directors managed the business. Several of the directors replied, strongly criticising Mr. Smith for his altitude, and contending that the shareholders had! the power to put in other directors if they wanted to do so.
