rOTERTY BAY v. WAIAPU •HAWKB "CUP TRIAL BAY'S PINE" INNINGS (Special to the. Herald.) WAIPIRO BAY, this day. In the eliminating match, to decide the honor of challenging for the llawke Cup, Poverty Bay made an excellent start against Waiapu, and closed their first innings for a total of 301. Waiapu had accumulated J 43 runs, tor the loss of live wickets, when stumps were drawn for the day. The visiting team won the toss, and went in first, J. Scholium .and G. J. Robertson opening against the bowling of G. Franklin and Wiekens. The first wicket fell cheaply, for with The 'score at -1, Robertson misjudged :i ball that rose sharply off the tricky pilch, and was neatly taken in the slips by »;. Gates. The fielding of the Waiapu slips was generally excellent. <i. Oates taking two/ catches there, and Wiekens three. The visitors had the other fieldsmen chasing the leather, however, for every man of the side, with the exception of G. .1. Robertson, made a handy score.
