‘FOOL-PROOF’ AEROPLANES

IMPORTANT EXPERIMENTS

NEW YORK, October 4. The possibility that a “ fool-proof ” aeroplane may be a- reality in the near future is indicated in an announcement . by the ,School of Aeronautics of- New York University Unit their experts are experimenting with an invention‘which, ; it is hoped, will eliminate tile dangers | of Hying.

| Professor Alexander Klcmin, head of Idle Aeronautical School, declares that 1 the feared nose-dive, which is the cause i of many fatalities in aviation, may be made impossible through this invention. 'lt is also expected that it will permit the aeroplane to glide safely to earth automatically /whenever the engines stop. Other important improvements in aerial travel are also being perfected by these experts, the professor stated.

: The greatest steps in the conquest of ; the air trill occur during the next five years, is the opinion oi' Mr. W. R. Stout', head of the General Aeroplane ’ Manufacturing Company. Ho says : Aeroplanes will be made so safe and at such a reasonable cost that the average man who owns a: motor-car will be able to buy a plane. The people also will have become educated to the use of aeroplanes. The man on the ground has an idea that aeroplane riding will make him sick and be too thrilling. As a matter of fact there is not as much “kick” in flying as there is in fast motor-riding. One of the big advantages in favor of the aeroplane is the ; fact there is' no limit to space; the aeroplane will never have the traffic problem of' the motor-car. Of course there eventually will have to he aeroplane police, hut merely to regulate the proper channels.
