GISBORNE CITY BAND

CONTEST PRACTICES START. Members of the Gisborne City Paint are hoping to take part in the championship contest in Wellington next February, and are commencing practice immediately on the pieces. The items chosen for the B grade contest, in which the band will play, are exceptionally interesting, and the bandmaster, Mr. Wyke, considers they will provide a good test of the capabilities of the respective bands. The first selection is Mozart’s “Magic Flute,” synopsis being: Introduction and euphonium solo, “Bring Me Stake and Chain and Fetter,” chorus and dance “So Lovely the Music,” ensemble, “Could' but every worthy Man,.” chorus “ AH hail to Sarastro, ” duet and quartette, “Behold the Paths,” chorus, “When Justice Armed with Virtue’s Might,” euphonium solo, “A Maiden’s little leveling would Papageno be,” finale from overture. The second .selection is from “ Era Diavolo” (Aubcr), the synopsis being: Introduction and allegro from overture, cornet solo, “Oli Hours of Joy,” quintette, “Their Agony Deriding,” chorus, “flail blessed Morning,” euphonium solo, “The Gondolier fond passion’s Slave,” finale, “Yes, from out his eyes flame brightly flies.” The march will be “The Outpost” (Percy shaw). tion with full effects. The band will be heard in public giving these numbers,in a few weeks’ time.
