Messrs Bruce, Contes and Mackenzie King and Sir Bijay Burdwau began a tour under the auspices of the British Umpire League by travelling to Edinburgh, where they spent a most interesting day. They first, wen l admitted, to the freedom of: the city before a large assembly at IT,slier llall, which was made picturesque by tin 1 presence of killed school cadets, and the Magistrate’s Councillor in scarlet and ermine robes. By receiving the freedom they joined an illustrious, roll of burgesses, including Macaulay, ('has. Dickens, David Livingstone and Lord Kitchener. The new freemen were acclaimed with great enthusiasm. The visitors next lunched at the historic City Chambers, where the guests were played in by bagpipes. They enjoyed a meal in nowise imitating London’s, continental menus, but characteristic of Scottish fare, including turkey, plum pudding, and also haggis, brought in with due ceremony.
