Prior to the commencement of business at to-day's meeting of the Waikohu County Council, a vote of condolence to Lady Carroll was carried on the motion of the chairman, O. 1. B. Spence, members standing in silence:

Despite the fact that the Waiapu river is in high flood consequent to the heavy rams which fejl over the week-end in the hinterland of Ruatona, communications are being maintained with Tikitiki by means of the Rotokautuku bridge and the unformed, road from the bridge site to the native township on the far side of the river. Between the bridge and Tikitiki there is one ford, but it is by no means as difficult as the crossing of the Waiapu, and a few deviations through paddocks present no difficulties to traffic, The fact that a number of buildings were being erected in the Waikohu county for which building permits had not been issued was mentioned by the engineer, Mr. A. G. Lucas, in his report to the meeting of the Waikohu County Council to-day. The engineer was instructed by the council to notify all persons erecting buildings without permits that unless they could advance an adequate reason they would be prosecuted.
