STATEMENTS DENIED
RELEASE OF ERNE BAUME (Per Press Association.) WELUNC.TON, this day. Regarding the Baunie case, tho Hon. F. J. Roileston baid the Government had the fullest confidence in members of the Prisons Board. The suggestion thai judges of the Supreme Court were subject to any influence, social or otherwise. was so unwarranted as not to call for ari£ reply. S 0 Far as he was concerned he had never been approached, direjtly or indirectly, in the matter of Baume's release. In regard to preferential treatment being accorded to liaume, the Prisons Department had categorically denied the Her. Howard Elliott's statement. Mr. Elliott was clearly under n misapprehension as to preferential treatment, in contravention of the prisons regulations, and apparently unaware thai the regulations that apply to Borstal inmates were those made under the Prevention of Crime Act, 1924—entirely different from those under the Prisons Act.
