CBEISTCITURCH, this day, Iu the Spriug Hurdles Handicap at tho C.J.C. meeting on Saturday, Sayora lost his rider at the first hurdle, where Bachelor Gay was showing up iu the front. Passing the stand Bachelor Gay was Jive lengths in front, with Captain Sarto, Bo'nomel, Budiac, Coastguard and Black Cruiser in close attendance. Bachelor Gay's lead had been reduced to two lengths at the mile post. Five furlongs from, home Captain Sarto joined Bachelor Gay in the lead, with Radiac close up. At the half-mile post Bachelor Gay was beaten, and Radiac led into the straight. Xukamni challenged him at the last hurdle, but Radiac. won by lengths. Carawoek, who finished fast, was three leugths away, with Coast guard and Captain Sarto next. A NARROW WIN. High,.Pitch and Brightling were the smartest away in the Spring Plate and they led Rascal along the back. At the end of*two furlongs High Pitch dropped back, BrightUugL and Rascal going on iu front, w'hHfe Margaret Birucy was at tho tail of the bunch. Half a. mile from home Brightling and Rascal had increased their advantage by over three lengths from High Pitch, Hynana and Haze. On reaching the straight Rascal drew clear and, stalling oft' a Tate challenge from Hynauna, won by a neck. David Gurrick, who finished fast, was a length away, with High Pitch at the head of the others. GOLD MINT JUST WINS. In the Liuwood Handicap Royal Game and Gaybird led Goldtown over a furlong, Gaybird then dropped back, Goldtown and Royal Game going out four lengths in front of Gaybird and Miss Flighty. On reaching the straight, Royal Game was out in front, while Gold Mint, Goldtown and Lucky Days were prominent in the next bunch. Gold Mint took second place at the distance, and got up to beatRoyal Game by a neck. Lucky Days was two lengths away well clear of Bronatell, Goldtown, Sovena, Beau Geste and Assurance. COUNT CAVOUR'S GOOD WIN. In the Cup, from n, good start, Ravenna, showed the way to Desert Glow, Overdrawn, Goosestep, Novar,

Count Cavour, Tarlctou and Kalakaua. Going out; of tin* straight; Overdrawn took charge, followed by Ravenna, Desert; Glow, Goosestep, Full Swing, Clarinda, Novar, and Count Cavour. The mile covered,.Overdrawn was racing two lengths clear of Ravenna, with Desert Glow, Goosestep, Full Swing, Novar and Count Cavour racing in close order. A little further on the held closed up. Six furlongs from home Overdrawn was .still in charge, Desert Glow, Ravenna, Novar, Tarleton, Kalakaua, Count Cavour and Rapine all racing in close formation. Overdrawn was the first, into thestraight, closely pursued by Desert (Slow, then Clarinda, Ravenna, Goosestep, Count Cavour and Rapine. At the distance post Count Cavour made his effort on the outside, with Rapine, and Clarinda putting in their claims. Passing the stand Overdrawn was still in charge, Desert Glow. Count Cavour, Clarinda and Rapine all engaging in a. hot tussle and an exciting finish, ended in a victory for Count Cavour by half a length from Desert Glow, who finished a shortlength in front of Overdrawn, Rapine being a head further away, fourth, leaving Clarinda fifth.

BEATEN BY A HEAD. Iu the Welcome Stakes Cimabue was the smartest out, followed by Eulalie, Ark Royal and Solgele. At the end of two furlongs Cimabue had a lead of several lengths and she beat Eulalie easily by three length, Ark Royal was five lengths away, followed by Silver Coot, who got up in tho last stride and beat Solgele by a head. SOLROSE WINS EASILY. In the Apprentices' Plate Cornstalk was the smartest out, followed by Saxette and Solrose. At the end of two furlongs Solrose ran to the front, followed by Saxette, Pangolin, Cornstalk and Green Cloth. Solrose was three lengths in front at tho half-mile post and increased her advantage. Before the straight was reached Pangolin was beaten, at this stage Solrose being followed to the straight by Taboo, with Solfello easily holding her position. Solrose beat Taboo by four lengths, while one length further back came Cochy Bondhu, with Lady Clareuceux only a head away. COMIC SONG 'S GOOD EFFORT.

At. the start of the Stewards' Handii cap Orchid and Glentruin showed out ! smartly and they were still in charge 1 when "the course proper was reached, Booster, Volant and Licinius being prominent in the next bunch. The going was good after the early morning rain. Baron, after lying third in the early portion of the race for the Batman Handicap, finished in fine style, being easily the best, the time being a record for the. race. He is owned by A. T. Craig, who won the Melbourne Cup with Bitalli. Karon cost 1600 guineas as a yearling. Trivalve finished well and won the Flemington Stakes nicely. He was bred by the owner E. E. D. Clarke, and trained by Scobie, who also had charge of Baron. Pantheon led all the way in tho C.B. Fisher Plate, and won handsomely, doing the last 10 furlongs in 2.5. Pantheon has now started eight times at Flemington, getting one win and six minor places. The last half-mile was run in 46;isoc, the fastest four furlongs ever done at Flemington, the next best being four by Eurythmic in 47sec. Tho Bunker pushed his way through tho field from third place and finished best in the V.B.C. Handicap, scoring by a narrow margin. He was bred in New Zealand, and this is his third win in Australia. Ho is trained by Cecil Godby. The last, half-mile was covered iit 47jtsce. There was a. good race for, the Steeples. Cereldery was second last in the first part' of the race, but finished we]}. . He has won several steeplechases at Flemington. He is New Zealand-bred. Eridauna came through from fifth place to win the Final Handicap with ease, the time equalling the course record. Highborn defeated his rival by ten lengths. A match has been proposed between Coronach and Solario, the two leading , English racehorses, but there is little likelihood of the event coming off.
