A HAPPY RECEPTION
AT ST. WINIFRED'S SCHOOL,
Many parents and ifriends of the pupils of St. Winifred's School gathered in the beautiful school grounds on Saturday afternoon at a reception tendered in honor of tho visit of His Lordship the Bishop of Wajapu, Dr. Sedgwick. Early in. the afternoon the visitors spent a happy half-hour in inspecting tho buildings and grounds, and tho bishop was particularly impressed by tho appointments for the children's studies and pastimes. Many games of tennis, amongst the children were watched with much interest, after "which the guests had afternoon tea, While this was in progress, tho school choir rendered four well-known songs: " Yeomen of England." "John Peel," "Blow Away the Morning Dew," and " Simple Simon."
The principal, Mr. Edmonds, then thanked bis Lordship' and the parents and friends for their attendance. St. Winifred's, he said, was alive and kicking, and tho pupils and 1 teachers were having a glorious term, the first portion of which had been most successful. The oirls were working hard, and. equally important, were indulging to tho full in healthv games and pastimes, and witli the valued assistance of his staff, be felt that the .school would pros, per. He also' wished to express 1 his sincere thanks to the parents for their kindness and consideration. St. Winifred's, added the principal, was going to live and prosper, and a lot depended on the start of the new year. Tho school stood for a very high ideal. It was a church .school, and the atmosphere was one of Christian home influence. When Air. Edmonds bad concluded, the guests adjourned to one of the tennis courts, where a number of pnm'ls r/avo an exhibition of folk dances. The dances given were: "Gathering Peascod's." " Sleo Stately," " The Mock Hobbvlior.se," "The Parson's Farewell." "The Old Mole." and "If All the World were Paper."
