GRAY'S BUSH DOMAIN

VISIT OF INSPECTION The members of the Gray's bush domain board visited the domain oil Friday afternoon with a view to deciding on preliminary steps to be taken to have the domain thrown open to the public. Thore were present: Messrs. E. 11. Farnie (chairman), G. Wildish, Williams, H. Kenway and Whakaata and Messrs. Robertson and Darton attended in an advisory capacity. After going into the matter on the ground, tho board decided, provided a grant of .£SO could be obtained from the Kohi bush fund, to erect a 10ft. gate at the main road end of the chain wide access and to put a culvert, across the drain,- wide enough to take a motor car. At the bush end of the access it was decided to erect a stile and culvert and to make a. start in the cutting of tracks into and through the bush. A notice board will be erected near the main road and a temporary fence will be run along the odge of the chain reserve. ACQUIRING MORE LAND. It is hoped that it may be possible to .acquire another acre or two on the bush frontage, but nothing can be done in this direction until the present debt on the domain is paid off. It will be remembered that the contributions from the residents of Gisborne and the surrounding districts fell short of the required amount by about £125. Steps ard bing taken to erect a fire-place, outside the bush. There is no water on this domain and no wood worth speaking of, therefore, picnic parties will have to make their own arrangements in this direction. The members of the board were deeply impressed with the possibilities of tlie domain from a scenic point of view and the opinion was freely expressed that in Gray's bush the district has one of the finest possible assets. The board's hands are, tff some extent, tied by the debt which is still owing on the purchase money and nothing much can be done in the direction of opening (he domain to the public until this debt is paid off. It is hoped, however, to have a portion of tho domain available for use of the public before Christmas.
