PROTEST TO MINISTER
PROPRIETARY TRADE ASSN. COMBINE ALLEGED (For Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A deputation waited' on the lions. W. Downio Stewart and A. D. McLeod to protest against the operations of the Proprietary Articles Trade Association, which they described as the greatest combine, in' the history of this country. They asked! for a full enquiry into its action in fixing the minimum prices for household! commodities. , One speaker said a similar position had arisen in Canada and was dealt with by a special Act, but he did 1 not know if that bad been- effective. Mr Downio Stewart, in reply, said be understood! the association was getting wide, support, and) before any action could be taken both sides must be beard. The problem, whs not a new one, and jutice must be done between the manufacturer, retailer, and consumer. He would be glad to go into the question and would do Ills best to secure a solution.
