WAIKOKOPU
SUGGESTED IN 1889
A COUNTY MINUTE
A minute in the county records shows that Waikokopu as a solution to Wairoa’s harbor difficulties was first suggested as early as 1889. One or two of the councillors at that time favored an investigation of the scheme, but lack of fluids, then a very general feature of local body existence, caused the project, to be abandoned, and no further mention was made for a great many years.
