For stealing £2OCO belonging to'tho National Bank of New Zealand, William Henry Melvin was sentenced to-day to be detained for reformative treatment for three years. A(r. Sargent, for Melvin, said he was 27 years of age, and had' been employed in the bank for eleven years. He was an exceedingly capable officer. Melvin had .speculated in. mining shares as well as slow horses. Mr Justice fit ringer : What was this young man's salary? Mr Sargent.: £3OO a year. Ha is single. His Honor said the prisoner had robbed.bis employers by a systematic manipulation of the- bank records. It was necessary to impose a substantial sentence.
