Sir John MaflYy has been appointed Governor-General of Sudan. Mr. A. ,\i. Puflott. of Gisborne, is visiti'-iiir Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. J. ft. Jobes, of Gisborne. are paying a visit, to Auckland. Mr. A. P. liennett, formerly of Danner ii ke, at present niinripal of ilit? .Staff Division of the General Post. Office, has been appointed Chief Inspector of (he Post and Telegraph Department . _.Mr. J. L. Stout; S.M.. of Palmerston North, is making satisfactory, although slow recovery from his recent illness. It. will be some time yet. before be is able to be about; again. Mr. Geoffrey Denniston, at. one time on the staff of Christ's College, has been appointed assistant secretary at the Colonial Office in London. He went to England to continue his educational career, but orCamval in IXindon he was offered and accepted the appointment. Miss Olive K, Baker (R.N.) of St. Helen's hospital, Gisborne, has been successful in passing the State Midwifery examination, held in September last, and Selina B. Thomson, also of St. Helen’s, Gisborne, the Stale examination of maternity nurses. Both candidates gained over 75 per cent.
