EVENING OF SONG
Wesley Church, Bright street, was well filled last evening, when tho Bey. A. Mitchell, of Feilding, gave an intensely interesting lecture on "The Fisk Jubilee Singers, their story and songs." The Rev. Geo. Frost presided and introduced the lecturer. Mr Mitchell sang; "The Blind Ploughman," and "When Night is Darkest, Dawn is Nearest," before commencing his lecture, and delighted the audience, by'his rich baritone voice and splendid rendering of tjiese songs. From first to last the audience was en rapport with the great fund, of anecdote and humorous stories with which Mr. Mitchell illustrated his subject. Some twenty Selections from the jubilee song; were song, Mr. Mitchell accompanying his. specimens of these negro spirituals on the organ. Mr. Len. Harries accompanied the songs on the pipe organ. A collection for the Methodist Home and Maori Missions was taken. This evening, by special request, Mr. Mitchell is delivering his lecture in the Mangapapa Methodist Church,
