The Neapolitan bandit, DomcniCo Groppo, has boon arrested. Ho confessed to 48 murders. Tlie police find that innocent men arc now imprisoned for many of them. Groppo is overtaken by remorse and sees his victims threatening him with torture. He begs hi? gaolers to allow him to commit suicide. He even petitioned the Government for the privilege of being the first criminal to be hanged under the new capital punishment, law, saying that anything is better than the torture of remorse. Groppo usually murdered his accomplice to ensure his own safety.
