“BODY OF SHOWMEN”

ATHLETIC BODY ANNOYED

A BREEZY DISCUSSION TWO DELEGATES WITHDRAW ;Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Council of the New Zealand Athletic Association resents strongly lire imputation that it is acting like a body of showmen in respect to overseas tours, whoch was made recently by one of the West Coast delegates, Mr. Wilton. Mr. Wilton, nevertheless, persists in adhering to liis decision not to withdraw the statement. On the defeat of a motion, after another breezy discussion last night, that the chairman’s ruling he disagreed with, lie left the meeting, wishing the council “good night” and success to amateur athletics, and remarking that his term on the council had terminated. Ho was followed by Mr. Connop, another West Coast delegate, who said that he-would have to support Mr. Wilton. . At the outset of the meeting Mr. Wilton said tho words in the minutes, “body of showmen,” should be “like enterprising showmen.” The chairman was sure the word “body” was the word used, while the secretary pointed out that the ininutes were borne out by the press reports. The chairman again ruled that Mr. Wilton’s words were offensive, and must be withdrawn. Mr. Wilton refused, and moved that the chairman’s rilling he disagreed with, but the motion was defeated as stated.
