UNION REMAINS FIRM MAORIS CRITICISED "FROTHING FOR FIGHT" (Eke. T<-1. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Australian aim iN.54. Cable Association.; (deceived October o, 3 p.m.) LON UON, October 4. The Welsh Rugby Union committee are demanding that none of the tour clubs plavmg the Maoiis shall contract out ~i the Welsh rules. The committee upheld its rule regarding the referees. 'I iionsauds of tickets have already been soid. but the, games may be cancelled. Col. Trevor.'" in the Oail.v Telegraph, says: "1. have always felt that the Welshmen were askiim for trouble with this ordnance, but il came sooner than good rule: When m .Rome do as the Romans do. I find il bard to believe that the Maoris objected fo Welsh referees. The Welsh t niuii can scarcely lie blamed if it is inclined to regard the object ion as a slur on the efficiency and impartiality of Welsh referees. It is to be hoped thai the seemingly unnecessary i rouble will be satisfactorily adjusted before Ibe Maoiis arrive. Maoris on the warpath were tin interesting sight in the olden days, but I hey now lielong to us, and we want to see them henceforward playing- the game, not frothing for fight."
