BRIBERY CHARGES
LABOR PARTY ALLEGATION ENQUIRY COMMENCED REMARKABLE TESTIMONY GIVEN (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) SYDNEY, Oct. I. The Select Committee appointed by Parliament to inquire into the bribery charges has commenced its sittings. Mr. Farley, who was prominently connected with the Labor movement, gave evidence that lie was approached by Air. Fairer, a member of the Upper House, who suggested to him that, if a certain number of members of the Labor party could be bribed before the passage of the Workers’ Compensation Act, it would be worth his (Air. Farley's) while and the Nationalist party would lind all the money necessary to I»rilthe members. Mr. Farley alleged that he told Faruir later that he hail been approached by four members, but admitted to the Chairman of the Committee that he laid not told the truth in stating tins. Mr. Parley alleged that lie subsequently told Mr. Lang of Air. Farrar’s offer and the Premier said that he had thought for a long time that something of tne kind was going on.
