OBITUARY
MU. YY. J. PARKES. The funeral of the late Mr. M- -L Parkes. son of Mr. and Mrs. Parkes, of Tokomaru Bay. took place on IVednesday afternoon, September 15, the remains being interred in limaru Cemeterv. Deceased had been in the employ" of the Prisons Department for many years, and for the past year had been stationed in Tiinavu as gaoler. -Senior-Sergeant L'nlioy and a number if members of the police force were anVmgst- those who attended the funeral. The pall bearers were members of the South African Veterans’ Association, tlie deceased having been an ex-Contin-genter. He also served in the GioatWar. The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. A. C. Lawry. The hie Mr. Parkes had proved a very efficient officer of the Prisons Department. and was a very popular one. Unassuming in nature and ever ready to cl., a seivice to others, he was liked by all with whom he' had to do. and his death at a comparatively early age will arouse widespread regret. that lie "as a man of keen patriotic feeling may he. judged from the fact that, lie served both in tiie South African and the Great War. He leaves a widow and two children, and for them much sympathy will be felt.
