“A LOT OF DIRT”
SCENE IN A COURT MAGISTRATE DEFIED I (IVr Press Assoolalion.) I'.UIIATDA, this day. There was an unusual sceiif in the local court during the hearing of an assault case, the complainant being B. If. Wells, a taxi proprietor, and the defendant, H. W. Godfrey, the case arising out of a dispute in connection with taxi rivalry. The defendant exclaimed loudly, “I had a lot of dirt put up to me hv him about the war. 1 did more than ever lie did. Eve got. my brother’s name on the war memorial. 1 say now I'll pay no fine. I’m finished.” Then he swung out of the witness box. “lie’s a proper cur; lie’s nothing but a mongrel/’ the defendant called out- to the court in a passion of rage. The Magistrate : Do you want to get seven days: “I don't cam what 1 get," declared the defendant, as a constable was inducing him to make an exit. The defendant was convicted and fined £4. half to go to the person assaulted. in default 21 da vs.
