AUSTRALIAN MEAT PRICES
LOW RATES OFFERED Tt is reported that some o.f the meat works in Australia have opened for the season, and according to private advices exporters are operating with great caution, and offering very low prices. For lamb under 'l2lb tlnj offer is said to be about oLI per lb, for light wethers 4d, and for owes I Jd. These are the New South Wales prices l'or fat stock. Victoria is reported, to have had a good lambing season, and owing to ample rainfall there is plenty of feed, and the lambs are coining away well, and there is every prospect that the exports of lamb from the State will be larger than in the past season. The low prices ruling on the other side of 1 lie Tasman Sea are causing grave con corn to those interested in the trade iu New Zealand, and it is feared that prices here may show a further drop. However, the opening of the now season is still some way off, and with the settlement of the coal strike the position may change for the better.
