Four hundred Maoris from all parts of tho district assembled on Sunday for tho official opening of the Raetihi Ratana church. The opening service was conducted by Ratana, who was assisted by two local followers, Mr. A. 1.. Eastman and Rangi Taurerewa. Ratana gave an impressive address. Mr. Eastman is the first European to be appointed an apostle of Ratana. He was ordained a. few months ago.

Contemplating tiie situation with a very despondent, nir, he inquired in a broad accent how. long he would have to continue paying tho IQs. * “ Sixteen years,” remarked his Worship. The voune man made’ ho comment, but there* are limes when, silence is more eloquent than speech.
